The Swedish tech site teksajten.se has put together a helpful guide for users who want to prevent their data from being used to train Meta’s AI systems.

Starting June 10, 2025, Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram) will begin using publicly visible posts, comments, and photos from adult users in Europe to train its AI models – including Meta AI and the Llama language model.

Until now, EU user data has been excluded from these training efforts, but that is about to change.

Meta previously attempted a similar move in 2024 but had to halt the plans after intervention by the Irish Data Protection Commission. This time, a simplified opt-out process has been introduced, making it easier for users to protect their data.

How to Opt Out of Meta’s AI Data Training

If you don’t want your public Facebook or Instagram content to be used for AI training, you can easily opt out by submitting a form. All you need to do is log in – the optional text field can be left blank.

Important: Your opt-out request must be submitted by June 10, 2025.
After that date, any data already collected will not be removed from AI training datasets.

What You Should Know

This process only applies to public content – private messages and posts shared only with friends are not affected.

If you want to maintain control over how your data is used, it’s worth taking a moment to submit the form today.
